Anxiety in women can show up as:

    • a need to control

    • efforts to be perfect

    • worry, fear, or dread

    • intrusive thoughts

    • avoiding social situations

    • panic attacks

    • body pain

    • physical illness

    • low self esteem

… and more. Every woman’s anxiety is unique.

I specialize in supporting moms who are experiencing anxiety from the perspective of my clinical training & my lived experience as a mom with high functioning anxiety. I teach coping skills from the lens of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and teach you to cope with the distress anxiet brings using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques.

  • Postpartum depression (PPD) is more than the baby blues, and it’s different than feeling sad or overwhelmed. Many women who experience PPD descibe feeling exhausted, irritable, insecure, and even hopeless. I understand the way these feelings can cause you to feel like you aren’t doing your best as a parent. I want you to know tha you’re not alone and this isn’t your fault. I’m here to support you without judgment. With support, I believe you can feel better.

Fertility, Pregnancy, Postpartum, and the Early Years

Hi, I’m Dr. Julie.

Your Maternal Mental Health Therapist in seattle and on bainbridge island, washington.

I’m a licensed clinical social work therapist (LICSW) who specializes in perinatal mental health, women’s healthcare, and anxiety treatment. I offer therapy to women who are trying to conceive, are pregnant, postpartum, and in the early years of motherhood.

Sessions are available online for women who reside in Washington State + I hold groups and workshops in Kitsap County, Washington.

Women who get support tend to feel better quickly. And you deserve that support.

  • I am a doctoral level Licensed Independent Clinical Social Work therapist. I specialize in working with women who are considering motherhood, undergoing a fertility journey, are pregnant, postpartum, or in the early years of motherhood.

I understand that your experience of the many events and transitions you go through is unique, and I want to help you feel supported as they unfold.

My favorite part of being a therapist or women is seeing the relief women feel when they no longer feel alone in their struggles, hopes, dreams, and goals. I also enjoy watching you take back control and find the courage and skills to navigate the challenges you’re facing with confidence.

I specialize in women’s mental health, and I focus on both anxiety and perinatal mental health (mom’s mental health during pregnancy and the early years of each of your children’s lives).

I have supported women in practice and through research projects for over a decade, and I decided focus my therapy practice on this specific part of a woman’s life after going through my own experiences with fertility treatment, pregnancy, birth trauma, and postpartum anxiety. I am open to talking about my experience with you as a part of our therapeutic relationship if it is something you believe will help you; sometimes just knowing that I’ve been there, too, helps.

  • Item descriptionI am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Washington State. This license reflects my master’s degree in clinical social work + 5 additional, supervised years of training.

In addition to this training, I completed three additional years of advance practice training and hold my doctorate in social work from the University of Tennessee. I teach courses as a social work faculty member, serve on board memberships, and conduct academic research when I am not working with women in my practice. As a result, I offer up-to-date and cutting edge clinical care.

I am currently completing another advanced practice certificate through Postpartum Support International and will complete the Perinatal Mental Health Certificate in summer 2024.

    Completed Education:

    Emory University, BA (2009)

    Vanderbilt University, MTS (2011)

University of Tennessee, Masters in Social Work (2013) & Doctorate in Clinical Leadership and Social Work Practice (2019)

  • Everything about Dr. Julie’s practice is designed with women’s needs in mind.

    (A) We offer virtual therapy that you can attend from a convent location such as home, work, or someplace nearby. This helps to make regular attendance easier and is one less in-person medical appointment for you as you keep up with the many medical appointments you face during fertility treatment, pregnancy, in postpartum, and in early motherhood.

    (B) We allow and encourage your infants, toddlers, and young children to be present during your sessions. You are always welcome to breastfeed, hold your child, etc. We can help you find ways to entertain ou child so you can talk with us. We know that this helps you attend without needing to arrange childcare.

    (C) We operate on a school year calendar, meaning we close for school breaks. We find that women who are mothers have a difficult time attending therapy during school breaks because schedules and calendars are different. We make things easier by taking a break, too (And know that you will have a support plan in place during breaks so you know what to if you need help; we don’t leave you hanging!)
